As the second largest city in Croatia and home to a range of island transport connections, Split is a city rife with backpackers and budget travellers. Luckily, this means that you will always be spoiled for choice when it comes to budget accommodation. The key to booking a Split hostel is, however, not to be too hasty. And that’s easier said than done. On arrival in the city, expect to be greeted by mutterings of “zimmer, chamber, sleeping, sobe” as locals try to rent you out a room (often at a premium price). Rather than jumping at the first offer, it’s always best to do your research in advance. In order to make it a little easier, HostelBookers have pooled together information on some of the best bargain hostels Split has to offer. Split Hostel The ultimate place to ‘booze and snooze’, newly renovated Split Hostel is based in the very heart of Diocletian palace in the city centre. The hostel is situated within 1 minutes walking distance of Split’s most famous attractions, including a range of beautiful architectural sites, beaches, bars and cafes. Making the most of a prime location on the Adriatic coast, the young Australian owners have also organised ‘A Shore Thing’ island cruises, available to guests at the bargain price of 280 Kuna (that’s €40). Dorm rooms are on offer from €25 per night. Hostel Nepot Split Hostel Nepot Split is named after Julius Nepos, Roman Emperor of the West during the final days of the Western Roman Empire. Fittingly, the hostel is located in the heart of 1700-year-old Diocletian palace, right near the majority of historical landmarks, restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs. Perfect for those who enjoy a little privacy, double/twin rooms are on offer in addition to both family-size and studio apartments. Prices start from €18 per person per night. Hostel Adria Located right next to the beautiful Adriatic Sea, Hostel Adria is picturesque with its white brick walls, alfresco seating and extended balconies perfect for watching the seaside sunset. The hostel is located between Split and Omis, about 10km south of Split in a village called Banjice…and just 10 metres away from the crystal blue sea itself! Dorms and private rooms are both available from €25.20 per night. Hostel Peruzovic Located right in the heart of Split city centre, Hostel Peruzovic is within minutes walk of Diocletian palace, the Cathedral of St Duje and Marjan Hill in addition to a range of monuments, restaurants, cafes and bars. It is also only a 15-minute walk away from Bacvive – the most popular sandy beach in the local area. Travelers can select from twin or double rooms, available from only €20 per person per night Kamena Lodge Having recently undergone major refurbishment, Kamena Lodge offers comfortable and homely rooms just outside the main town of Split. While this traditional Croatian building is slightly further out from the centre, it provides excellent transport links including a free mini bus service and drop off at Split airport. It is also the only hostel in the Split area with a private swimming pool! Small dorms and private rooms are on offer from €21 per night. |
